Ropotamo is renowned for its stunning scenery, interesting rock formations, beautiful beaches and sand dunes.

For the first time in 1940. woodland around Ropotamo are declared protected, and in 1992. protected area expands and creates the preserve. The reserve provides habitat for a great variety of species, so do not forget your cameras. Marshy areas and rich feeding grounds are great opportunities for nesting birds of 226 species. Sand dunes and rocky areas are place that can meet many types of reptiles such as Hermann’s tortoise. The reserve found a home over 50 species of mammals, including deer, wild cats, foxes, deer, jackals, otters and colonies of bats in caves. In Ropotamo live and over 14 species of fish. In addition to a rich diversity of wildlife, the reserve offers over 600 species of plants. Wooded areas along the river banks are mostly deciduous, can be seen ash, maple, elm, hornbeam, oak, beech, willow, ivy, Thracian tulip, spring snowflake. Within the Ropotamo Arkoutino which grow beautiful white water lilies and water beautiful yellow roses. Marsh is a valuable reserve as deposits of white water lilies are wild, untouched by human hand.

The reserve can be seen and interesting rock formations “Lion head” and “Happy Rock”. A curious part of the reserve is the island of St. Thomas, or called Snake Island. It is attractive to feral opuntsii cacti, which were planted on the island in the 30s of last century.
